In a tragic turn of events, 63‑year‑old Dr. Eric Cordes and his 66‑year‑old wife, Vicki, were fatally shot in the garage of their high‑end Simi Valley home around noon on Sunday. Their 37‑year‑old son, Keith Cordes from Kentucky, fled the scene and later set fire to his Honda Civic. While trying to escape, he shot himself with the same handgun that law‑enforcement believes was used in the double homicide, the police said. A body discovered in a charred car in Chino, about 65 miles away, was identified as Keith, after license‑plate cameras traced the vehicle from the crime scene to the accident spot near Ayala Park. Simi Valley, which typically records only about one homicide per year, is stunned by this violent episode. The hospital where Dr. Cordes worked has mourned his loss, describing him as a “beloved physician” who had served the community with compassion and excellence for nearly three decades. A coroner’s office is still conducting additional tests on the deceased.
