Haryana Floods: 12 Lives Lost in House Collapses Due to Heavy Rains
In a tragic turn amid heavy rains in Haryana, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini shared that 12 people have died after houses collapsed in flood-affected areas. This heartbreaking news comes as the state grapples with widespread flooding and waterlogging.
The fatalities broke down like this: three deaths each in Fatehabad and Bhiwani districts, two each in Kurukshetra and Yamunanagar, and one each in Hisar and Faridabad. Speaking to the media in Chandigarh on Monday, CM Saini emphasized that the Haryana government is keeping a close watch on the flood damage caused by heavy rains. "We’re doing everything we can to help our people," he said.
To make things easier for flood victims, the government has launched an e-compensation portal. So far, 169,738 farmers from 2,897 villages have registered 996,701 acres of land for compensation. CM Saini highlighted quick relief priorities in flood-hit and waterlogged zones, with ongoing relief work across all affected areas. The state has already released Rs 3.06 crore as a reserve fund to districts for immediate flood relief measures.
Families of the deceased are getting financial support too – an ex-gratia payment of Rs 48 lakh has been disbursed. If floods force people out of their homes, the government plans to set up relief camps right away. For farmers facing crop damage from waterlogging, compensation goes up to Rs 15,000 per acre.
CM Saini also addressed fodder shortages in these areas, promising to bring in dry fodder from unaffected districts. Teams will soon survey collapsed or partially damaged houses in waterlogged spots and provide compensation for house losses due to floods. On the health front, doctors’ teams are on the ground in flood-affected areas, with 135 medical camps already operational to treat those impacted by the heavy rains and flooding.
Showing solidarity with other states hit by disasters, the Haryana government has donated Rs 5 crore each to Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. On Monday, they extended the same aid to Himachal Pradesh. To boost the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, all party MLAs have donated one month’s salary, and officials and employees are encouraged to contribute voluntarily.
Finally, CM Saini thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for pushing GST reforms, which he says will help the economy recover from such natural calamities like floods in Haryana. As the state battles these heavy rains and floods, the focus remains on quick recovery and support for everyone affected.
