The Daily Beast has finally said sorry to First Lady Melania Trump after running a controversial story that linked her to Jeffrey Epstein. The outlet pulled the article last week and issued a public apology, admitting it didn’t meet their standards.
Back in July, The Daily Beast published a piece titled “Melania Trump ‘Very Involved’ in Epstein Scandal: Author.” It was based on claims from author Michael Wolff during a podcast interview. Wolff, known for his book “Fire & Fury,” alleged that a modeling agent tied to Epstein introduced Melania to Donald Trump and that Epstein knew her well. But Melania’s lawyers quickly stepped in, demanding the story’s removal.
At first, the site just added an editor’s note without a direct apology. Now, they’ve gone further. The updated note says: “Upon reflection, we have determined that the article did not meet our standards and has therefore been removed from our platforms.” They also scrubbed part of their podcast episode “Trump’s Epstein Scandal Can’t Stop Won’t Stop” that mentioned Melania. The outlet wrapped it up with, “We apologize to the First Lady and our readers.”
Melania shared the apology on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, simply captioning it: “Retraction & Apology from The Daily Beast.” Her team has been fighting back hard against these Epstein claims. In her 2024 memoir “Melania,” she sets the record straight: She met Trump at a New York Fashion Week party in 1998 at the Kit Kat Klub. He sat next to her, they chatted, and she was drawn to his energy. They got engaged in 2004 and married in 2005—no Epstein connection in sight.
This isn’t the first time Wolff’s stories have caused trouble. Even some left-leaning journalists have questioned his reporting in the past. President Trump himself slammed Wolff earlier this year, calling him a “Third Rate Reporter” mocked by fake news circles.
Melania’s lawyers aren’t stopping here. Last month, Democratic strategist James Carville apologized and deleted a podcast episode after suggesting an Epstein link to the First Lady. They’ve also threatened to sue Hunter Biden for over $1 billion over similar false claims he made in a YouTube interview, citing Wolff.
The saga shows how quickly unverified Epstein scandal rumors can spread, but Melania Trump is pushing back to protect her story and reputation.
