Eric Trump shared how his father, Donald Trump, and his mother, Ivana Trump, shaped his upbringing in the latest episode of Pod Force One. The 41‑year‑old, who earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University after attending The Hill boarding school, recalled a set of strict rules that were always front and center in the family.
A “hard‑hat” upbringing
At the podcast, Eric said his dad gave him a hard hat and sent him to construction sites where he earned minimum‑wage pay. “Dad was all about life lessons,” he said. “No drinking, no drugs, no smoking, good grades, no tattoos, and don’t trust anyone.” The rules, he explained, summed up Donald Trump’s own approach to success.
“I was never allowed to have an excess of money or an excess of free time,” Eric added. “If you leave a kid too idle or give him too many dollars, bad things happen.” He pointed out that most kids he knew who lacked direction ended up in rehab because of exactly those factors.
“Dad’s recipe worked,” Eric said. “He kept us away from nightclubs, hard drugs, and bad influences.”
A mother who was “as tough as they came”
Ivana Trump, former competitive skier and model, was described as equally demanding. Eric laughed that she had a “no‑filter” attitude—she was elegant on the outside but could chastise a construction worker much quicker than anyone else. “She could make a tough worker feel at home and then tell him ‘F‑yourself’,” he said.
He recalled moments in which Ivana was strict—“she would pull the pants down on Don Jr. and it worked.” Those memories show a mother who, according to Eric, mixed glamour, athleticism, and a hard‑nosed side of discipline.
Remembering the family legacy
Ivana Trump passed away on July 14, 2022, after a tragic fall at her Upper East Side home. Eric reflected on her death in his new memoir, Under Siege: My Family’s Fight to Save Our Nation. “She drank too much, and that ended her life,” he said. “It was an ugly day, but we loved her.”
Eric’s story offers a look at the strict parenting that helped shape the future president’s family dynamics. From “no drinking” to “no excess time,” the Trump family’s rules are a reminder of how discipline can shape a future.
