Elizabeth Pascal, a federal magistrate in Camden, has directed that 26‑year‑old Natalie Greene—known for her work as a staffer for Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R‑NJ)—undergoes “residential treatment” in an inpatient mental health facility. The order came after the courtroom recorded her release on a $200,000 bond with GPS ankle‑band monitoring on November 19, but the judge deemed the treatment a better fit than the bracelet.
Greene, who drove a Maserati and once studied law at Rutgers, was accused last month of staging a false attack on herself. Prosecutors say that on July 23 near Egg Harbor Township Nature Reserve, she pretended to be assaulted by three men. According to the indictment, the supposed assailants poked around her, held her at gunpoint, carved her skin, and wrote the slur “Trump Whore” on her stomach—stunts she allegedly arranged as a political stunt to defend her employer.
The case details revealed that Greene hired a fetish artist ahead of the attack. While in Pennsylvania two days earlier, she paid a body‑modification specialist $500. The artist then slashed her face, neck, chest, shoulder, and stomach with a scalpel, adding the phrase “Van Drew is a racist” to her skin as part of the staged scene. Prosecutors argue that Greene’s plan was to draw attention to her position with Van Drew and to deflect criticism.
On the day of the alleged ambush, Greene reportedly called 911 on someone she claimed was a friend, reporting that three men fired guns at her. When the police arrived, they found her bound with zip‑ties, her hands and feet tied, her shirt pulled over her head, and her body marked by cuts. A Maserati SUV found on the scene contained the same zip‑ties, a detail prosecutors used to contradict Greene’s story.
The charge against Greene is twofold: conspiracy to present false statements and making false claims to federal law enforcement. If convicted on both counts, she could face up to ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Her attorney, Louis Barbone, has repeatedly stated that his client is “presumed innocent.” The New Jersey U.S. Attorney’s office, however, did not respond to comment requests following the new court ruling.
