Melania Trump poured her heart into the White House’s holiday makeover, unveiling a “Home is Where the Heart Is” theme that celebrates American generosity, patriotism, and gratitude. The festive display is a dazzling mix of more than 10,000 blue butterflies, 25,000 feet of ribbon, 2,000 strands of light, 2,800 gold stars, 700 feet of garland, 120 pounds of gingerbread, 51 Christmas trees, and 75 traditional wreaths. She explained that the saying “Home is Where the Heart Is” feels especially true as she balances the joys, challenges, and constant movement that motherhood and a demanding career bring; “home is not just a place—it’s the warmth I carry wherever I go.” This is Melania’s fifth time illuminating the mansion for Christmas.
Traditionally, visitors start touring the White House from the East Wing, a space the first ladies have historically adorned. However, in October President Trump removed that section to accommodate a $300‑million ballroom project, so this year the tour shifts to the State Floor, where each room showcases a unique sub‑theme. The East Room, marked “Home is Where the Heart Is: America, Our Home,” bursts with patriotic red, white, and blue décor, including eagles, the Great Seal, and 250 stars to honor the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The Green Room carries top American board games and Lego portraits of the president and George Washington under the banner “Home is Where the Heart Is: Family Fun.” In the Blue Room—home to the official White House Christmas tree—the décor pays tribute to Gold Star families with blue, gold, and ivory accents, titled “Home is Where the Heart Is: Where Strength and Sacrifice Meets Home.” The Red Room embraces the “Be Best” initiative, featuring over 10,000 butterflies and the sub‑theme “Fostering the Future.” The State Room highlights past White House diplomacy with White House Historical Association ornaments, gilded acorns, and hand‑painted magnolia blossoms, under “Home is Where the Heart Is: A Place to Gather.” Finally, the Grand Foyer and Cross Hall glow with a “Where Love Blooms” motif, tying the whole celebration together.
