A Florida driver was stopped in Palm Coast after being clocked cruising at more than 100 mph on a stretch of highway. The speed came to light when a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputy, who pulled him over on Sept. 23, pulled up the new‑wed, 57‑year‑old Michael Stanek in his speeded‑up car.
When the deputy asked, “Why you going so fast?” Stanek replied, “I have an appointment with my barber.” He said he was on his way to New Smyrna Beach, even though the two towns are over an hour apart. The body‑cam footage shows a timestamp past 6 p.m., meaning he was well beyond the 70‑mph limit for the area.
The deputy told Stanek that driving like that could land him in jail. “Weaving in and out of traffic and putting other folks in danger,” the deputy said. Stanek was then arrested for dangerous, excessive speeding. He was taken to the Sheriff’s Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility and released on a $150 bond, according to an FCSO Facebook post.
The police officer’s clip has already been shared online. In the footage, the deputy says, “So go the speed limit… even if you’re late for a haircut.” After the arrest, the county pulled the car—nicknamed Stanek’s “super speeder”—from the scene.
Stanek’s story has sparked discussion on Florida highways, as drivers grapple with tight speed limits on the 101 and the commute between Palm Coast, Welaka, and New Smyrna Beach. The incident serves as a reminder that taking the highway at 107 mph is never worth the risk.
