According to reports, a Florida mother named Maria Carla Rodriguez, 37, has been booked into custody after a violent incident at her Miami‑area home. The Miami‑Dade Sheriff’s Office says Rodriguez woke her son around 9:20 p.m. because she found he had not completed his daily chores, and a Local10.com article details the confrontation that followed.
The sheriff’s report states that Rodriguez instructed her son to wash dishes in the kitchen. When he let a fork slip, she apparently grabbed the utensil and hurled it toward his head. He was able to dodge the flying fork, but Rodriguez then seized a broom and allegedly began striking him in the body, according to police statements.
Law enforcement officials document that the assault left the boy with bruises on his arms and chest. Rodriguez reportedly sent him to the bathroom to scrub the toilet, but she allegedly sprayed him with a cleaning product, causing his eyes to become red and swollen.
Police were called shortly after the incident, though it is not yet clear who made the report. Rodriguez, in custody, denied that she assaulted her son. She claimed that the altercation stemmed from a disagreement over household responsibilities and her desire to spend time with friends.
She stands charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and remains in jail with a bond amount not yet determined, according to the reporting outlet.
