A shocking hatchet attack in North Dakota has left everyone stunned. A 23-year-old woman named Lena Deoliveira allegedly struck her sleeping boyfriend in the head with a hatchet early one morning, and her beaming smile during arrest has raised eyebrows.
The incident happened around 5 a.m. on September 5 in a garage in Fargo, where Deoliveira and her boyfriend, Jonathan Granados, were staying. According to court documents reported by InForum, Deoliveira attacked without any warning. Granados rushed to the emergency room after police arrived at the scene.
A witness staying in the same garage pointed to Deoliveira as the attacker. He described her as homeless, often crashing on couches in the neighborhood, including this garage. The man woke up to terrifying screams and saw Deoliveira hitting Granados with the hatchet. He heard a sound like wood splitting and spotted blood everywhere.
When he got closer, the witness noticed Granados had one or two fingers missing or dangling, plus a deep cut through his skull. “He believes there were two strikes,” the court papers noted. Granados later told police the attack came out of nowhere. Doctors found his fingers badly lacerated and a large gash on his head.
After the chaos, Deoliveira fled the garage. Officers followed a trail of blood leading away from the spot where the three had been sleeping. They caught her two days later on September 7 in Moorhead, without any trouble, as the Fargo Police Department shared on Facebook.
In her mugshot from Cass County Jail, Deoliveira grinned widely, looking almost cheerful despite the charges. Police booked her for attempted murder and aggravated assault. She’s now held on a $500,000 bond and faces court in Cass County on October 16.
This bizarre hatchet attack case continues to unfold, with many wondering what led to such a violent moment in Fargo. Stay tuned for updates on this North Dakota crime story.
