A shocking confrontation inside a California Target store was caught on video after a woman angrily berated an employee over a red “Freedom” T-shirt associated with conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
The footage shows the woman approaching the employee as she quietly restocked clothing racks and aggressively demanding to know why she was wearing the shirt. The woman repeatedly used profanity and insulted the worker, at one point asking if she was “stupid” and insisting the shirt was inappropriate because it was not part of Target’s uniform.
When the employee calmly explained that she was allowed to wear the red shirt, the customer escalated the confrontation, accusing her of supporting “a racist.” Despite the verbal abuse, the employee remained composed, responding, “That’s your opinion, ma’am,” before walking away.
Target later addressed the incident in a statement, emphasizing respect and employee safety. “We expect everyone in our stores to treat one another with respect. Right now, we’re focused on supporting our team,” a Target spokesperson told The Post on Wednesday night.
The Chico Police Department also weighed in, stating that after reviewing the video and speaking with the employee, investigators determined the actions of the woman filming the encounter did not rise to the level of criminal behavior.
The woman who recorded the video is believed to be employed by Enloe Health, a medical center in Chico, Northern California. In response to public backlash, Enloe Health released a statement on Facebook confirming that it is investigating an employee in connection with a social media post tied to the incident.
“We are deeply concerned about the tenor of this post,” the organization said, adding that it is conducting an internal review. The statement did not identify the employee involved and noted that the hospital is relying on the Chico Police Department to assess any potential criminal or threatening conduct.
Meanwhile, public support for the Target employee has surged. The Christian crowdfunding platform GiveSendGo identified the worker as “Jeanie” and launched a fundraiser that has already collected more than $120,000.
According to the fundraiser’s description, the money is intended to help Jeanie take a well-earned break. “We are hoping to raise enough money so that she can afford a much-needed vacation — a time to relax, recharge, and forget about the ugliness,” the page reads.
The incident has sparked widespread debate online about workplace expression, political tolerance, and how retail workers are treated by customers.
