The incident in Los Angeles last week involved a TikTok star who was shot by federal agents after allegedly ramming his car into law‑enforcement vehicles. Carlitos Ricardo Parias, 44, is better known online as Richard LA.
His TikTok channel draws more than 130,000 followers and features videos of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents detaining suspected illegal immigrants.
On October 21, the police said Parias was stopped in a traffic check. After agents surrounded the scene, he reportedly drove his Toyota Camry toward the officers. An ICE agent fired a shot that hit Parias in the elbow and a U.S. marshal who was also shot by a ricocheting bullet.
Acting U.S. Attorney Bill Essay said the shooting was “unfortunate but expected to heal.” Both Parias and the marshal are expected to recover.
Parias is now facing a federal charge of assaulting a federal officer. He will appear in court in Los Angeles next Wednesday and could receive up to eight years in prison if he is convicted.
The case has sparked mixed reactions. While Los Angeles City Councilman Curren Price praised Parias as a “pillar of our community” and highlighted his role as a “fearless citizen journalist,” many officials underscore the seriousness of the incident and the laws that govern illegal immigration in California.
The shooting has drawn attention from national media outlets, including ABC 7 and Fox News, which have called for a thorough investigation. It also raises questions about the safety of law‑enforcement officers and the influence of social‑media stars in high‑risk encounters.
As the case proceeds, the story continues to develop. Keep an eye on updates from the U.S. Marshals Service and the federal courthouse in Los Angeles.
