A 34‑year‑old man from Massapequa has been charged with a shocking crime that has rattled the Long Island community. Prosecutors say Marquise Utsey met a 12‑year‑old boy on a “social networking and dating mobile app,” spent several days building a relationship with the child, and then showed up at the family’s home in Amityville on December 6 to commit a violent assault.
When the boy was alone inside his parents’ house, Utsey allegedly forced himself on the child before demanding money. “Fearing for his own safety, the victim went into a family member’s bedroom and allegedly gave Utsey the money that he found there,” the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said.
Tierney, who led the investigation, called the suspect’s actions “utterly reprehensible behavior and a profound betrayal of human decency.” He described Utsey as a stranger who “used a mobile app to gain access to a child for his own sick benefit.”
After the attack, the boy told his parents what had happened, and the family immediately called law enforcement. Utsey left the scene before police arrived. He was later apprehended in Massapequa and arrested on charges of rape, sexual abuse, robbery and endangering the welfare of a child.
Utsey was indicted on Tuesday and ordered to post a $750,000 cash bond. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in state prison. The case is still under investigation, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
