Mayor Adams bizarrely calls winter wonderland dumping a ‘good baby-making day’

New Yorkers were advised to embrace the snowy weather, Mayor Eric Adams said, calling the storm a “good baby‑making day.”
The biggest snowfall in years prompted the mayor to joke that people should stay home, watch Netflix, and chill.

“Stay home. This is a good baby‑making day … As my son would say, just do Netflix and chill — that’s all and just enjoy the day,” Adams told viewers live on WABC’s Eyewitness News This Saturday Morning. He extended the joke when host Pedro Rivera asked whether the city might see a “baby boom” in spring. “We want to improve the population,” Hizzoner (the mayor) quipped.

Adams praised the city’s emergency crews for keeping streets clear. “Because we were expecting 11 inches and really we got about four inches and by 6 a.m., all of our streets had at least one pass from our plows. So, a really great job,” he said.

On Saturday morning, New Yorkers woke to a modest 4‑inch blanket of snow—well below the 11‑inch forecast that had alarmed officials. The storm slowed after it hit dense, cold air, dramatically cutting the amount of precipitation.

Queens received the most snow, with Howard Beach logging 4.6 inches, according to the National Weather Service. Fordham, Williamsburg, and Central Park each measured 4.3 inches. The precipitation made this the largest snowfall in the five boroughs since 8.3 inches fell in Central Park in 2022.

Despite the lower snowfall, the Department of Sanitation continued to plow and salt every street as if the city had received a full foot of snow. By 10 p.m., the roads were expected to be significantly cleared.

“The roads should be fairly clear by around 9‑10 o’clock,” Adams said. “Whenever you fall, you never forget it. So we want to make sure people are safe as they move through the streets.”
