A trained mixed martial arts fighter in Florida turned the tables on a home intruder, leaving the man bruised and arrested after he wandered into the wrong house.
Henny Rojas was crashing at his sister’s place in Wilton Manors, just north of Fort Lauderdale, on a Saturday morning when his teenage nephew burst in, yelling about a stranger in the living room. Rojas, who’s been honing his MMA skills for about three years, didn’t hesitate. He jumped up and confronted the intruder, identified as 31-year-old Austin Carasani, using only his hands to take him down—no guns or knives needed.
“I’m prepared. It’s not my first time; I don’t feel pain. Nothing,” Rojas told CBS12. “I don’t have guns; I wasn’t looking for a knife—just God and my hands, that’s it.”
Rojas’ sister, Patrizia, and her husband were in Miami at the time. They got a frantic call from their son, who screamed, “Mom, call the police, someone has broken into the house.” Patrizia later shared the terrifying moment with reporters.
Police arrived quickly and hauled Carasani away. Hours later, he showed up in court with a black-and-blue face covered in welts from the scuffle. The suspect told officers he’d been drinking at a nearby club and thought he was heading to his friend “Paul’s house” in the area. But Rojas and his family insist they’d never seen the guy before and had no clue who he was.
Carasani now faces a home invasion charge and is locked up at Broward County Jail with a $20,000 bond, according to authorities.
Rojas says he’s glad he could protect his family and wouldn’t do anything differently. “Protect your family,” he advised. “There are a lot of crazy people [who] don’t believe in God, who [are] only looking for damage.”
