Basilisa Negron, a 47‑year‑old mom of six, was shot to death in her daughter’s Brooklyn apartment on Malcolm X Boulevard on Tuesday. According to her brother, Juan Romero, Negron had just left a 20‑year relationship with her boyfriend and lived with her daughter only three days before the incident.
Negron was killed in a bathroom when the gunman opened fire. Her daughter was out of the building at the time, and her brother has called for the ex‑boyfriend to be arrested.
“We’re just hanging on, the family is just hanging on waiting for him to be caught,” Romero said. “If I ever see him face to face there won’t be any talking.” He added that the ex had threatened Negron’s life during their painful breakup.
Police have named the ex boyfriend a person of interest, but he has not yet been arrested or charged. NYPD officials said the case is still under investigation. There is no public record of any domestic‑violence complaint being filed by Negron in the past week, though she has an established history with the department and has received referrals to domestic‑violence services. It is unclear whether she had an active order of protection.
Romero says the ex was controlling and “overbearing” throughout their long relationship, and that the relationship broke down last week when Negron chose to leave. He claims the ex stalked Negron, “knowing where she was and what she was doing.”
In a call to the news, Romero added that Negron was the eldest of six siblings and had three children with the ex. He described her as a loving person who would “give her last dollar to help someone else.”
