NYC area faces likely bomb cyclone as snow and rain turn evening commute into dangerous mess

The powerful nor’easter is pounding the Northeast with heavy snow and could quickly sharpen into a bomb cyclone, bringing even more precipitation.

Millions of residents from Ohio to Maine received winter warnings as the storm rolled in early Tuesday morning, and some inland communities were already recording an inch of snow each hour.

If atmospheric pressure continues to plummet as the system nears the coast, the storm may transform into a bomb cyclone, unleashing intense winds and boosting both rain and snowfall, according to CNN meteorologist Derek Van Dam.

Even if the storm intensifies, coastal zones south of I‑95 are expected to see only rain. In contrast, a broad swath from Albany up to Maine could be hit with as much as eight inches of snow before the system dissipates.
