UP Yoddhas Eye Big Win Against Struggling Bengal Warriorz in Pro Kabaddi League
Jaipur, Rajasthan: The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) heats up as UP Yoddhas prepare to face off against Bengal Warriorz at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium on September 16. After a mixed run, the Yoddhas are hungry for a crucial victory to recapture their early-season magic.
UP Yoddhas have shown plenty of promise, even in recent losses. Their defense stays rock-solid, and lately, their raiders have fired on all cylinders. Leading the charge is star raider Gagan Gowda, who’s racked up 62 raid points in just five matches. That puts him fifth on the PKL top raiders list this season. Teaming up with him is Guman Singh, with 19 points from key raids that turned games around. Bhavani Rajput adds 14 points, giving the team a balanced attack that’s tough to stop.
Assistant coach Upendra Malik shared his thoughts ahead of the match: "Every team in the league is on fire right now. We’ve had close calls where things could have gone our way, but we need to cut down on errors. Our defense and raids must click together, especially in crunch moments. Gagan’s been outstanding, and the rest of the squad will step up to deliver better results."
Stats back up their strength—UP averages 21.4 raid points per match, ranking fifth in PKL. Gowda leads with four super raids, the most in the league, plus two Super 10s. He averages 12.4 raid points per game, making him one of the deadliest raiders around. Captain Sumit Sangwan anchors the defense, grabbing 3.8 tackle points per match—the highest in the entire tournament.
Meanwhile, Bengal Warriorz are in a rough patch, dropping their last four games straight. They started strong with a win over defending champs Haryana Steelers, but things have gone downhill since.
