Rajkot, Nov 27 (LatestNewsX) – Ahmedabad’s selection as the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games marks a significant turning point for the nation’s sporting scene, presenting the local government with a chance to rapidly expand athletics facilities and infrastructure across the city.
The city is presently building a 52‑crore sports complex and plans an athletes’ village that will house more than 3,000 competitors.
This timing offers the Gujarat administration a prime opportunity to elevate Ahmedabad’s profile on the worldwide sports stage.
Dr Arjunsinh Rana, former Vice‑Chancellor of Swarnim Gujarat Sports University, told LatestNewsX how the Commonwealth Games can be leveraged to create cutting‑edge venues and establish the city as a major hub for major sporting events.
He noted that Swarnim Gujarat Sports University had begun as a vision during Narendra Modi’s tenure as Chief Minister, and that the 2010 launch of “Khelo Gujarat” helped strengthen the state’s athletic culture.
In 2022, Gujarat hosted a national competition that further sharpened its readiness, bringing the dream to fruition when Ahmedabad secured the CWG 2030 bid.
“This is a proud moment for Gujarat and for the entire country. There are no words to express our joy. We thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this.” he added.
Dr Rana praised the earlier “Khelo Mahakumbh 2010”, now rebranded as “Khelo India”, saying such visionary moves lay the groundwork for future successes.
Today, the state provides modern facilities to athletes in villages across Gujarat, enabling easier and swifter participation in a range of sports events.
