Exclusive | Andrew Cuomo tells donors he’s ‘not going anywhere’ as speculation swirls over another run
He’s not Cuo‑ing away!
Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he has no plans to head to Florida—he reassured donors that the exit is still far off even as rumors buzz about a potential comeback.
A fresh note from the ex‑governor, sent to donors of his mayoral campaign, makes it clear: “I’m not going anywhere, I will continue to stand up against hate in all its forms.” He stressed that while the campaign may have wrapped up, his work to fight antisemitism and boost public safety isn’t finished.
Cuomo’s message echoes the brief string of hints he’s dropped since the Nov. 4 election loss, where he teased that he could run for office again. Speculation has grown about a possible future gubernatorial bid or a congressional run.
On Monday, Cuomo’s team released another open letter that sparked a firestorm on X. One angry backer, State Sen. Gustavo Rivera (D‑33), compared the former governor to a venereal disease: “Christ…Andrew is basically the human personification of herpes. Just because you can’t see it right this second, don’t mean he’s gone away!” Rivera added, “Please, dude: just be like Hep‑C so we can get rid of you already!”
Another user chimed in: “NY DOES NOT F‑KING WANT YOU! Oh my f‑king GOD! What’s wrong with him?”
Cuomo himself stoked speculation when he joked about moving to Florida during a Hamptons breakfast in July. “We either win or even I will move to Florida. God forbid,” he said.
He raised questions about his political future on a recent WABC radio show with former Gov. David Paterson. “You can win a city as a socialist. You can’t win a state. You can’t win nationally as a socialist,” Cuomo said, hinting at his own prospects.
Those comments were a shift from his earlier remarks after losing the June mayoral primary to Mayor‑elect Zohran Mamdani. Back then, Cuomo had light‑heartedly told business leaders that a Mamdani win in the general would send him packing for the Sunshine State.
Spokesman Rich Azzopardi clarified that the July remarks were all in good fun. He also hit back at Senator Rivera, who had faced criticism for following a series of salacious social media accounts. “Last I checked Senator Rivera never got 900,000 votes, but given his documented online interests I wouldn’t be surprised if he knew a thing or two about herpes,” he said.
