Punjab Police Arrest AAP MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra After Security Withdrawal
In a surprising move, Punjab Police arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra on Tuesday. The arrest came just a day after the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, withdrew his security cover.
Harmeet Pathanmajra shared his side of the story through a Facebook video. He claimed that the police had booked him under Section 376 in an old case related to his ex-wife. The MLA also accused Delhi AAP leaders of trying to dominate Punjab and suppress his voice.
Earlier, Pathanmajra openly criticized senior officials from the Irrigation Department. He blamed them for worsening the flood situation in the state. He named Principal Secretary (Drainage) Krishan Kumar and demanded the removal of the officer, saying he failed to take necessary steps to desilt and clean the rivers, especially the Tangri river. The MLA highlighted that the government needs to listen to people’s concerns or face political repercussions.
In his videos, Pathanmajra warned that if the government neglects flood prevention, it could hurt the AAP’s chances in the 2027 assembly elections. He pointed fingers at Kumar, claiming that poor river management led to the flooding and accusing him of behaving as if Punjab’s survival depends only on him.
He also urged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to remove Krishan Kumar, accusing him of controlling key departments, misleading politicians, and ignoring farmers’ issues.
Adding to the controversy, Pathanmajra revealed that his security personnel—12 officers—were withdrawn on Monday. He also said station house officers in his constituency were replaced without warning. Despite these actions, he maintained confidence, saying, “All MLAs stand with the CM. They’re just trying to scare us.” He warned that if the situation continues, it might impact the party’s future government prospects.
Pathanmajra also expressed fears that, under Delhi AAP leaders’ instructions, agencies like the Vigilance Bureau might take action against him for speaking out against his own government. He concluded by asserting his loyalty to the party and warning that such actions could have serious consequences for the MLAs and the party’s future in Punjab.
