Uttarakhand’s chief minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, announced on Monday that the state will hold a special two‑day Assembly session to mark its 25th anniversary. The session will focus on the state’s journey since its birth in 2000 and the progress made over the years. Dhami said the dates will be released soon, but the event is a clear sign of the government’s intent to celebrate and reflect on the state’s Silver Jubilee.
Uttarakhand was carved out of northern Uttar Pradesh in November 2000. Originally called Uttaranchal, it was renamed Uttarakhand in 2007. The state’s creation followed decades of protests by hill residents who felt marginalized by the Lucknow government. They wanted a body that could address the unique cultural and developmental needs of the mountainous region.
During the announcement, Dhami highlighted his government’s focus on the state’s youth. Over the last four years, the BJP‑led administration has created more than 25,000 jobs. “Our students and young people are our priority,” he said. He also addressed a recent complaint about a rigged exam centre. A committee investigated, the exam was cancelled, and a new, fully transparent test will be conducted. “We will keep a close eye on the process to prevent any loopholes,” Dhami assured.
Health services are another priority. The state now offers 207 types of pathological tests free of charge in government hospitals. “Everyone should receive timely and accurate testing and treatment, regardless of their income,” the chief minister added.
Dhami also used the event to celebrate the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) 2025. He noted that cooperative bank customers have tripled under the current government, and deposits have risen to Rs 16,000 crore. He praised an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Mandwa grain, a local finger millet, raising it from Rs 42.90 to Rs 48.86 per kilogram to benefit farmer cooperatives.
The two‑day Assembly session and related celebrations underscore Uttarakhand’s growth and the government’s commitment to development, employment, health, and financial inclusion. The exact dates will be announced soon as the state plans to make the Silver Jubilee a milestone open to all residents.
