Muscat, Nov 5 – A new report highlighted how India is leading the way in expanding cooperation across the Global South, sharing its success in everything from digital infrastructure to trade and investment.
India’s growing engagement is shaping a fresh, multipolar world. The report underscored the country’s commitment to fair power and resource distribution and to making global platforms listen to all voices, not just the old powers.
The paper traced India’s historic role in fostering cooperation in the Global South. From early alliances with Egypt, Indonesia and Ghana to the Non‑Aligned Movement, India has long pushed back against Western dominance. Today, that legacy underpins the current push for South‑South cooperation, a joint effort to raise collective voices in a post‑colonial world.
“The shared history, culture and economic experiences unite India with other developing nations,” the report wrote. It cited India’s “Vaccine Maitri” during Covid‑19, where the country sent nearly 300 million vaccine doses to low‑income, vulnerable countries—often free of charge—while many others imposed export bans.
With trade protectionism rising and tariffs soaring, the Global South needs tighter economic ties to stay stable amid uncertainties. India is stepping up as a key economic partner, driving investment and partnership agreements across the region.
Indian companies are making headlines for their investments and business deals in everything from agriculture and mining to telecommunications, pharmaceuticals and renewable energy. In Africa alone, Indian enterprises have poured over $50 billion into new projects, creating jobs and building infrastructure. In Latin America, Indian firms are investing in IT and clean energy, boosting technology and sustainable growth.
The spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” – the world is one family – shines through India’s initiatives, whether it’s responding to crises, meeting development needs or speaking up on international stages. By acting as a bridge and a booster, India is redefining how the Global South works together for shared prosperity.
