A convenience store clerk in Bradford, England, who has been missing for five years is now reported “safe and well.” The update came just days after police arrested five people on suspicion of murdering him.
Ismail Ali, 46, vanished after his shift at the Gulam Food Stores in northern England in May 2020. The disappearance went quiet until West Yorkshire Police announced that three women (47, 54, 55) and two men (27, 51) had been taken into custody following search warrants at several homes in the area.
Police said the investigations now suggest Ali may have been murdered. Yet in an unexpected turn, investigators confirmed that Ali turned up at a local police station claiming he was alive and unharmed. Officers say they are now working to explain how he disappeared for so long and to keep him safe while they complete the required checks.
The arrest warrants, which were issued on Monday, were not immediately linked to Ali’s case. During the searches, police seized a large amount of cash and are also looking into possible money‑laundering offences. Some of those arrested are now held on bail for those charges.
West Yorkshire Police have not released details on where Ali went during the five‑year period. The family has been notified that their relative is alive, and detectives will continue to probe the circumstances of the disappearance, the arrests, and the financial investigation.
