Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy said on Thursday that India must treat research as a national priority, not a luxury. Speaking at the Infosys Science Foundation ceremony that revealed the 2025 prize winners, he urged the country to build a robust, supportive ecosystem for scientists, scholars and innovators.
Murthy described research as the pinnacle of human curiosity and imagination, calling it a discipline that demands courage, discipline and resilience. He pointed to the United States as an example: nations that invest heavily in basic research often lead the world in science, technology, economic growth and overall well‑being. Echoing former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Murthy added that science can solve poverty, hunger, superstition and stagnation.
He called on India to create an aspirational, merit‑based, intellectually vibrant environment where young researchers can thrive free from hierarchy and limited opportunity.

### Infosys Q2 FY26 Profit
Infosys also revealed a strong financial performance. In the second quarter of fiscal 2026, the IT giant reported a consolidated net profit of ₹7,364 crore, up 13 % year‑on‑year. Compared to the same quarter a year ago, this marks a significant jump from ₹6,506 crore. Quarter‑on‑quarter growth remained healthy at around 5 %, following a Q1 result of ₹6,921 crore.
These updates underscore both Cientific India’s calling to boost research and Infosys’ continued market success.
