Mumbai-based music composer Anu Malik is buzzing with excitement for his upcoming project, Tu Meri Poori Kahani, which hits cinemas on September 26, 2025. In a recent chat with in Andheri West, Mumbai, ahead of the film’s release, Malik opened up about his deep bond with veteran filmmaker and producer Mahesh Bhatt. He revealed why he affectionately calls Bhatt a "monk" – someone who always steps in to save the day during tough professional times.
Malik shared that Bhatt has been his go-to savior whenever work slowed down. He recalled their early collaboration on the 1993 film Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee, a turning point in his career. "Back then, I had some gigs, but things were drying up," Malik said. "I reached out to Mahesh Ji, and he gave me a big break. Songs like ‘Tere Dar Par Sanam Chale Aaye’ and ‘Baadalon Mein Chhup Rahe Chand Kyun’ became massive hits."
That support didn’t stop there. Malik highlighted how Bhatt later called him for more opportunities, including tracks like "Yeh Ishq Hai Meri Jaan." What touched him most? Bhatt’s insistence that Malik stay rooted in his heritage. "Mahesh Ji told me, ‘I need you, but I want the Anu Malik who honors his land and keeps his father, Sardar Malik, close to his heart.’ If you can do that, you’re incredible," Malik recounted.
Together, the duo transformed Bollywood music in the 1980s and 1990s. Their joint efforts shone in films like Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee, the romantic hit Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, and the National Award-winning Zakhm. These projects set new standards for Hindi film soundtracks and boosted Malik’s rise as a top composer.
As fans eagerly await Tu Meri Poori Kahani, Malik’s stories remind us of the lasting friendships that fuel Bollywood’s magic.
