Pawan Kalyan, the Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and popular Telugu actor, is showing his support for cross-regional cinema harmony. Even as his latest film They Call Him OG runs into release roadblocks in Karnataka, he’s pushing for higher ticket prices on the Kannada hit Kantara: Chapter 1 in Andhra Pradesh.
The Telugu action drama They Call Him OG, released recently, has exploded at the box office with its thrilling story and strong acting. Fans in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are thrilled, but the movie hit snags in Karnataka, where a few people pushed personal motives to limit its screenings. This isn’t the first time Telugu films like They Call Him OG have faced such hurdles there.
In a bold move, Pawan Kalyan has voiced backing for raising ticket prices for Kantara: Chapter 1 in Andhra Pradesh theaters. The Kannada blockbuster, already a massive success, could see better earnings with this adjustment, highlighting his call for fairness in the film industry.
Speaking out, Pawan Kalyan stressed the borderless spirit of movies. "Cinema, music, sports, and cultural arts don’t care about language, region, caste, or religion," he said. "They bring people together and entertain everyone. It’s sad that some folks in Karnataka tried to block They Call Him OG screenings for their own reasons, just like other Telugu films before it."
He quickly shut down any talk of payback. "Now, some are saying we should restrict Kannada movies like Kantara in our Telugu states. I don’t agree with that at all," Pawan added. "Art and films should spread joy, connect cultures, and unite us—not divide. Everyone has the right to enjoy what they like. If a movie isn’t for you, skip it. But letting hate or agendas target films? That’s wrong."
Pawan Kalyan wrapped up by celebrating Indian cinema’s global rise. "Right now, films in every language are winning hearts worldwide," he noted. "We must reject any effort to box art into regional walls. Let’s cheer good movies from anywhere."
Known for his passion for filmmaking, Pawan Kalyan has long championed creators from all backgrounds. As both an actor and leader, he keeps proving that quality cinema deserves support no matter the language—whether Telugu films in Karnataka or Kannada hits like Kantara: Chapter 1 in Andhra Pradesh.
