In New Delhi’s vibrant Chittaranjan Park, the Durga Puja celebrations kicked off with a creative twist, blending tradition and cinema at the K Block pandal. The local committee drew inspiration from Satyajit Ray’s classic film Sonar Kella to mark their 50th anniversary of building grand Durga Puja setups.
As Shardiya Navratri lights up India, families flock to colorful pandals filled with thematic decorations. This year’s standout in CR Park features a massive Goddess Durga idol alongside Lord Ganesha, leaving visitors snapping photos in amazement. The structure mimics the majestic Jaisalmer Fort with a striking golden finish, and inside, it showcases intricate Jain temple architecture straight out of Sonar Kella.
Sumit Majumdar, the puja committee president, shared his excitement: "We designed the pandal to echo Jaisalmer Fort while weaving in elements from Satyajit Ray’s acclaimed film. Celebrations run through Navami, and on Dashami, we’ll immerse Maa Durga right here on our grounds. Everyone’s welcome—it’s a big community event. Devotees love how mesmerizing the decorations turned out."
Not far away, the B-Block Durga Puja Samiti in CR Park also hit their 50th milestone with an earthy theme. They built their pandal using soil to honor Mother Earth, adding a fresh touch to the festivities.
Durga Puja, or Durgotsava, honors the Hindu goddess Durga’s triumph over the demon Mahishasura. According to mythology, she visits Earth during this time to bless her followers. In 2025, the festival runs from September 28 (Shashthi) to October 2 (Vijayadashami), drawing millions into the spirit of devotion and joy.
