Chennai, Nov 26 (LatestNewsX) – A buzz is swirling in the Tamil film circuit: popular actor Vijay Sethupathi is reportedly slated to take on a pivotal role in superstar Rajinikanth’s eagerly awaited follow‑up, Jailer 2.
According to inside sources, Sethupathi is already on set, working under the direction of celebrated filmmaker Nelson. Production is underway in Goa, and his scenes are currently being filmed. While no formal announcement has been issued yet, the rumor is gaining traction.
Rajinikanth himself hinted at an extended shooting schedule earlier this year, noting in May that Jailer 2 might continue filming until December. While leaving Chennai airport, he told reporters, “Shooting of Jailer 2 is progressing well. It will be December by the time the film ends.” The first part’s massive hit — earning roughly ₹650 crore — has sparked tremendous hype for the sequel.
The second chapter officially began in Chennai, with Sun Pictures confirming a March 10 start. A teaser that mixed humor with high‑octane action quickly captured audiences’ attention.
Actress Ramya Krishnan later shared a post recounting her inaugural day on the Kerala set near Attapadi, quipping, “26 years of Padayappa and the first day shoot of Jailer 2.” She will portray Vijaya Pandian (Viji), the wife of Rajinikanth’s character Muthuvel Pandian. Meanwhile, Mirnaa, who plays Swetha Pandian — Rajinikanth’s daughter‑in‑law — is also expected to feature prominently.
Rumors circulate that Kannada legend Dr. Shiva Rajkumar and Malayalam star Mohanlal could also join the cast, though official confirmation is pending. Composer Anirudh, whose music was integral to the first film’s success, is slated to return for the sequel’s soundtrack.
