Mumbai: Singer Papon chose to treat his 49th birthday by diving straight into his music rather than taking a holiday. He explained that the day’s real joy comes from working on the art he loves, so he feels no need to pause.
Speaking about spending his birthday in studio and on stage, Papon shared, “Music has always been my biggest celebration. I don’t feel the need to take a break on my birthday when I get to spend the day doing what I love.”
Having just wrapped up the highly praised Sham‑E‑Mehfil 2025 tour, he’s now in the final mix of a new album that blends fresh poetry with soulful arrangements—a hallmark of his signature depth.
“This new ghazal collection is very close to my heart,” he added. “The energy from the shows keeps me inspired. Of course, I’ll steal a little time to be with my family too—because they’re my grounding force. But for me, creating music is the best gift I can give myself and my listeners.”
Soon, fans will hear the album’s original compositions, featuring contemporary poems penned by today’s most vibrant writers.
A glance back at Papon’s journey shows he began in 1998 with the Assamese track “Nasaba Sokule” from the album Snigdha Junak. By 2004 he had released his first solo album, Junaki Raati.
His Bollywood breakthrough came in 2006 with “Om mantra” from Strings – Bound by Faith. A year later, his hit “Jiyein Kyun” from Dum Maro Dum cemented his popularity. In 2014 he delivered Gulzar’s “Lakeerein” for Kya Dilli Kya Lahore and “Sun RI Bavli” for Nagesh Kukunoor’s Lakshmi.
2015 saw him singing “Moh Moh Ke Dhage” for Dum Laga Ke Haisha and “Humnava” for Hamari Adhuri Kahani. The following year, he lent his voice to “Bulleya” from Sultan.
