Mumbai, India – November 15
Bollywood legend Sanjay Khan’s wife, 81‑year‑old Zarine Khan, died on November 7. The family, which includes Sanjay, son Zayed Khan, daughter‑designer Farah Khan Ali, Simone Arora and granddaughter Sussane Khan, gathered a few days later for the traditional “asthi visarjan” – the immersion of ashes in a river.
Sanjay Khan shared an emotional video on his social media. He walks beside his son, hands clasped, heading toward the river. The clip plays over the Bollywood classic “Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai.” In the post, he writes, “In fond memory of my beloved wife, Zarine Sanjay Khan,” and shows unseen photos of the couple’s life together.
During the funeral rites, Zayed Khan was seen breaking into tears, and Sanjay Khan looked visibly moved as he said goodbye to his long‑time partner. The family carried the ashes and lowered them into the water, following Hindu cremation customs.
Farah Khan Ali reacted on her own social media, criticizing the press for prying into how her mother was buried. She complained that some reporters seemed more interested in her mother’s choice to be cremated than in offering condolences. Farah also called out paparazzi for their insensitive coverage of superstar Dharmendra’s health crisis, urging the public to respect families during tragedy.
Zarine Khan’s death was attributed to age‑related complications. Her passing marked the end of a long life in the public eye, and it drew an outpouring of grief from her family, fans, and Bollywood peers.
