On Teachers’ Day in Delhi, the city’s Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh took the stage to honor visually impaired teachers and highlight ongoing efforts to support persons with disabilities. The event was a heartfelt tribute to teachers who inspire society despite facing challenges like blindness.
During the ceremony, Minister Singh praised teachers as true nation builders. He specifically praised visually impaired educators for their dedication and resilience, calling them an inspiration to everyone. “Respecting teachers raises the pride and dignity of our society,” he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to support all teachers, including those with disabilities.
The minister also shared an important update on the backlog of UDID (Unique Disability ID) cards, which are essential for accessing various government benefits. As of now, over 39,000 UDID applications are pending in Delhi. However, in the last three months, more than 6,200 UDID cards have been issued, showing active progress. The government has directed officials to speed up the process and clear the backlog quickly.
The event took place at the All India Confederation of the Blind in Rohini and was organized by the Dinkar Society and the Indian Blind Welfare Council. The celebration included a soulful devotional song performed by students with disabilities, adding to the emotional atmosphere.
Minister Singh emphasized that the Delhi government is committed to empowering visually impaired people. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a strong and inclusive India, Delhi is working to make public spaces and transportation accessible for everyone. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the government is providing high-quality assistive devices and conducting regular camps for assessments and support.
On this special day, the event also honored Padma awardee Jawahar Lal Kaul, a dedicated advocate for the visually impaired community. A large crowd of teachers, social workers, and citizens gathered to celebrate the efforts being made for disability empowerment.
This Teachers’ Day highlights Delhi’s ongoing commitment to making education and public life more inclusive for all, especially those with disabilities.
