Delhi Congress seeks Rs 1 lakh per acre relief for flood-hit farmers

Delhi Congress Demands Rs 1 Lakh Compensation for Farmers Hit by Rains and Yamuna Floods

In a strong push for farmer relief, the Delhi Congress has urged the government to provide Rs 1 lakh per acre as compensation to farmers in nearly 50 villages. Heavy rains and Yamuna floods have wrecked their crops, leaving thousands in distress.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Devender Yadav highlighted the massive crop damage across thousands of acres in the city. He pointed out that farmlands in villages like Palla, Hiranki, Bhaktawarpur, Songarpur, Tijipur, Jagatpur, and Burari now sit underwater. This disaster has shocked farmers who rely entirely on their produce to make a living.

Yadav emphasized the urgent need for aid, noting that many farmers took loans and borrowed money to cultivate their lands. Without quick help, their livelihoods hang in the balance.

He reminded everyone that farmers in "Dilli Dehat" backed the BJP in the recent Delhi Assembly elections. Yet, the Rekha Gupta government seems to have ignored their suffering from the monsoon rains and floods. Yadav added that poor residents in Yamuna floodplains also faced the brunt, but farmers got hit hard too.

Yadav accused the government of reacting too late to the floods. The crisis worsened after Haryana released a huge volume of water from the Hathnikund Barrage, flooding low-lying areas and destroying farmlands.

Looking back, Yadav said the Congress government always stepped in fast during such disasters. They offered quick financial relief of Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 per acre for crop losses from rains, floods, or hailstorms.

He also slammed the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for neglecting farmers over 11 years. Now, the current administration follows the same path by overlooking the heavy crop damage from Yamuna floods and heavy rains.

This demand for farmer compensation in Delhi comes at a critical time, as monsoon floods continue to disrupt rural lives. Stay tuned for updates on government response to these farmer relief demands.
