Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurates 24th International Conference of IASSI

Dehradun, Uttarakhand – On Friday, Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami opened the 24th International Conference of the Indian Association of Social Science Institutions (IASSI) at Doon University. The meeting brings together scholars from India and abroad to talk about social welfare, economics, jobs, industry, farming, tech, the environment and how cities grow.

During the launch, the Chief Minister said the conference will help shape practical policies for both the state and the nation. “When ideas turn into action, people benefit,” he told attendees.

Dhami highlighted the progress made under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He praised schemes such as Jan Dhan Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and Ayushman Bharat, which have helped millions, especially those at the edges of society. He also mentioned green initiatives – the Solar Mission, Electric Mobility, Green Hydrogen Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission, Namami Gange and the Plastic‑Free India Campaign – that protect the planet.

The state’s government is tightening social justice measures. Old‑age pensions now include both spouses, and pension payments have switched from quarterly to monthly. Uttarakhand aims to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. To balance the economy with the environment, the state has launched a three‑pillar, nine‑point plan.

Key focus areas include poverty reduction, food security, clean water, sanitation, gender balance, clean energy, smart city development, financial inclusion and climate change. Initiatives such as the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udhyamita Protsahan Yojana, Solar Energy Revolution Campaign, Smart City Mission and Mukhyamantri Shahari Aajeevika Yojana strengthen these sectors.

Uttarakhand has topped the country in SDG achievement, according to NITI Aayog, but it still faces challenges like climate change, disaster response, healthcare access, sustainable farming and water management. To overcome these, the state has teamed up with Tata Trusts, NASSCOM and the Wadhwani Foundation.

Tata Trusts support projects in water, nutrition, tele‑medicine, rural livelihoods and green energy. Meanwhile, collaborations with NASSCOM and the Wadhwani Foundation train young people in Artificial Intelligence, data science, cyber security, Python, Generative AI and entrepreneurship.

With these efforts, Uttarakhand hopes to become a model state for sustainable development, turning ideas into action and benefiting all its residents. ()
