Congress MP Rahul Gandhi to visit Punjab tomorrow

Rahul Gandhi is set to visit Punjab on Monday for a one-day trip, just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aerial survey of the flood-hit areas. The Congress leader will focus on the worst-affected districts of Amritsar and Gurdaspur, where he’ll meet families hit hard by the floods and check the damage firsthand.

This comes amid ongoing concerns over the devastating floods in Punjab. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi shared his worries on social media platform X, mourning the lives lost due to heavy rains and flooding not just in Punjab but also in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. He offered condolences to grieving families and hoped for the safe return of those still missing.

In his post, Gandhi pushed for urgent action, asking the government to issue high alerts across flood-affected areas, ramp up rescue operations, and deliver quick aid to avoid more tragedies. He also rallied Congress workers and leaders to join hands with local authorities in relief efforts.

But the visit has sparked a sharp response from Punjab BJP spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal. He questioned why Congress and its allies, who run eight states including those led by the Aam Aadmi Party, haven’t stepped up with more financial help or relief supplies for Punjab’s flood victims.

Baliawal called on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and state Congress chief Raja Warring to share clear details on aid from these governments. “People of Punjab need to know which parties really stood by them during this crisis,” he said, pointing out the irony that both the state government and Congress keep criticizing central aid while their own ruled states stay quiet.

He took a dig at the timing too, noting that Rahul Gandhi was in Malaysia when Punjab faced its worst flooding and people suffered the most. Baliawal called the visit more of a political show than genuine support for flood-affected families.

On the flip side, he highlighted the Centre’s quick response under PM Modi, which released Rs 1,600 crore in immediate relief to Punjab, on top of the Rs 12,000 crore in the State Disaster Response Fund. BJP-ruled states like Delhi, Gujarat, Goa, and Haryana each donated Rs 5 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Plus, they’ve sent thousands of trucks and train wagons loaded with food, rations, and essentials to help flood victims.

Baliawal added that BJP leaders and workers have been on the ground non-stop, aiding relief and rehab work across Punjab. He demanded answers from Rahul Gandhi on why Congress-led states showed such indifference to Punjab’s floods. Ultimately, he stressed, Punjab’s people deserve full transparency on who truly helped them in their time of need.
