In Chandigarh, AAP Punjab President Aman Arora blasted the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their “deliberate absence” from the month‑long series of events set up to mark the 350th anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom.
Arora said he was deeply disappointed that, even after receiving personal invitations, BJP leaders had shown a “blatant disregard” for the sacrifice made by the ninth Sikh Guru, who gave his life to defend the fundamental rights and religious freedom of all, including Hindus.
He explained to reporters that the organizers had deliberately designed the celebrations to be apolitical, aiming to teach future generations about Guru Tegh Bahadur’s extraordinary sacrifice without letting the occasion be stained by partisan politics. He added that the goal was to rise above any religious, political, or social divisions.
When questioned about the invitations, Arora noted that they had reached a broad array of leaders: the President of India, the Prime Minister, all Union Ministers, and the state Chief Ministers. Cabinet ministers had personally extended these invitations. He admitted that the team had held back, hoping the leadership might honor the occasion by visiting the sacred site of Sri Anandpur Sahib, but “today, I can say without hesitation that they have shown their true colours.”
Arora pointed out that Prime Minister Modi was only a 12‑to‑15‑minute flight away, being in Kurukshetra, yet chose not to travel to Anandpur Sahib to pay his respects. He argued that this single decision eliminates any remaining doubt and reveals the deep-seated resentment harbored by some toward Punjab, Punjabi culture, and the Sikh community.
