BFI Cup 2025: Amit Panghal, Vishwanath, Husamuddin in semis; Manju Rani, Ankushita, Arundhati, Priya and Parveen reach finals

During the men’s quarter‑finals at the BFI Cup 2025 held in Chennai, Asian Games gold‑medalist Amit Panghal (Services) proved why he’s a top contender by defeating teammate Usman Ansari 4‑1. His teammate S. Vishwanath (Services) also dominated, winning 5‑0 against C. Lukas (Tamil Nadu), while world championship bronze‑medallist Mohammad Husamuddin (Services) sealed his semi‑final spot with a flawless 5‑0 win over M. Henthoi Singh (Services).

The BFI Cup, which runs from October 1 to 7, is the first of its kind and offers elite men’s and women’s boxing across 10 weight categories each, following world‑boxing standards. Winners in gold and silver will earn a fast‑track entry to the Elite National Camp.

On the women’s side, World Championships silver‑medalist Manju Rani (Railways) advanced to the final after a 5‑0 victory over Haryana’s Mahi Siwach. Assam’s World Youth Champion Ankushita Boro also moved into the last two, beating Himachal Pradesh’s Shretima Thakur 5‑0. Other standout rounds included former Youth World Champion Arundhati Choudhary (Services) defeating Deepika (SAI) 5‑0, Haryana’s Priya over Jyoti (Delhi) 5‑0, and World Championships bronze‑medalist Parveen Hooda (SAI) romping 5‑0 against Mahi Lama (Madhya  Pradesh).

The competition features boxers from state units and boards that finished in the top eight of the Elite Nationals, together with athletes from the SAI NCOE, host state Tamil Nadu, recent elite championships, the Indian team at the 2024 and 2025 Asian U‑22 Championships, and medalists in international meets since 2022. Past National Games and Youth Nationals winners are also on the grid, all entered through their state and board selectors.

The BFI Cup provides a crucial platform for upcoming talent to shine while giving seasoned fighters a chance to fine‑tune their game ahead of national and international commitments.
