Australia’s leading bowler Pat Cummins is on the way back from injury, says team‑mate Alex Carey. While back in shape after a full‑hour net session at Optus Stadium, the fast‑bowling star was ruled out of the opening Ashes Test at Perth because of a back‑stress injury.
“Cummins looked ready to go after bowling in the nets,” Carey told SEN’s The Run Home. “He was bowling at 140 km/h effortlessly, so it looks like he’s getting back to full game fitness.”
The 25‑year‑old spent almost an hour delivering almost 10 overs on Perth’s practice wickets. The workout was part of his comeback plan, giving him more than two weeks to be game‑ready for the second match in Brisbane on Dec. 4.
Australia is captained by Steven Smith in Perth, and lapsed squad members Scott Boland and debutant Brendan Doggett will step in for Cummins and Josh Hazlewood. The team’s depth should help as they wait for Cummins to return to the crease for the Gabba Test.
