Indian Badminton Stars Shine at Hong Kong Open 2025
Indian badminton sensation Lakshya Sen powered into the semifinals of the Hong Kong Open 2025 after a thrilling win over fellow Indian Ayush Shetty in the quarterfinals. The match on Friday turned into an all-India showdown, with Sen grabbing the first game 21-16. Shetty fought back hard to take the second 21-17, pushing it to a decider. But Sen turned up the heat in the third, dominating 21-13 to seal the victory in just 66 minutes. Now, the world No. 20 shuttler gears up to face Taiwan’s Chou Tien Chen in the semifinals, as announced by the Badminton Association of India (BAI).
Lakshya’s journey to the quarters wasn’t easy either. On Thursday, he took down compatriot HS Prannoy, ranked 34th in men’s singles badminton, in a gripping three-game battle: 15-21, 21-18, 21-10. The clash lasted one hour and eight minutes, showcasing Sen’s resilience and skill.
Adding to India’s strong showing, the dynamic men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also stormed into the semifinals. The duo edged out Malaysia’s Junaidi Arif and Roy King Yap in a nail-biting three-game encounter. They started strong with a 21-14 win in the opener, but dropped the second narrowly at 20-22. No backing down though—they roared back to clinch the decider 21-16 and secure their spot. Next up for Satwik and Chirag? A semifinal clash against Chinese Taipei’s Chen Cheng Kuan and Lin Bing-Wei.
Earlier in the pre-quarterfinals, the Indian pair showed their comeback spirit by rallying from a game behind to beat Thailand’s Peeratchai Sukphun and Pakkapon Teeraratsakul 18-21, 21-15, 21-11. That win took one hour and three minutes, proving why they’re India’s top-ranked doubles team.
With Lakshya Sen and the Satwik-Chirag duo advancing, Indian badminton fans have plenty to cheer for at the Hong Kong Open 2025. Keep an eye on these stars as they chase glory in the final four!
