Oksana Baiul, the 1994 Olympic gold medalist in figure skating, is putting her Shreveport home on the market and heading back to Las Vegas after a decade of marriage and a failed attempt to start a skating school in Louisiana.

Baiul says she can’t make a living in Shreveport. The 47‑year‑old posted on Facebook that she has listed her five‑bedroom, five‑bath mansion for $1.195 million and will return to Nevada. She added, “I love you all, I’m sorry it didn’t work out,” and thanked the city for its support.

The house, a 1925 Georgian‑Italianate estate built by architect Edward F. Neild for an oil baron, sits on 1.3 acres. It features 7 fireplaces, a gated driveway, six garages and an outdoor fountain. Last year the couple purchased the property for $600 000, but the restoration and high maintenance costs weighed on Baiul’s finances.

In August, Baiul announced that she and husband Carlo Farina are divorcing after ten years of marriage. Their 10‑year‑old daughter lives in Las Vegas. The couple’s split comes amid Baiul’s ongoing career changes.

Baiul’s first major success came when she won gold in women’s figure skating at the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, beating American Nancy Kerrigan and China’s Chen Lu. After the victory, she trained in Simsbury, Connecticut, and later settled in Pennsylvania, where she met Farina.

She has now signed on with the Vegas Golden Knights organization. Baiul will work with the team’s skating programs staff, helping to grow the skating community across Nevada. “I enjoy taking risks,” she told KSLA. “I learn from tougher situations, not just success.”

The former champion once faced a $45 million judgment from NBC after a failed lawsuit in 2014. That was the only legal setback she reports.

Baiul’s new chapter in Las Vegas means a return to the ice she loves. She thanked Shreveport for its hospitality, expressed gratitude for the support she received during her brief stint, and said she will miss the city but looks forward to the next move.
