Dhaka, Nov 23 (LatestNewsX) – Hasan Murad finally dismantled Ireland’s stubborn defence on the last day, handing Bangladesh a 217‑run win in the second Test at Dhaka.
Curtis Campher hung in there with an unbeaten 71 off 259 balls, while his partner Gavin Hoey managed to stay at the crease through more than 31 overs. Murad then uncapped both Hoey and the No. 11, Matthew Humphreys, with back‑to‑back wickets, clinching a clean 2‑0 series victory.
Both Murad and Taijul Islam took four each, but the highlight remained Mushfiqur Rahim’s century on his 100th Test. Taijul also crossed a personal milestone, becoming the sixth left‑arm spinner to claim 250 Test wickets, and he had already surpassed Shakib Al Hasan’s 246 to become Bangladesh’s highest wicket‑taker. The match briefly paused on the third day after a small earthquake shook the ground.
After lunch, Campher and Hoey continued to play with remarkable composure, extending Bangladesh’s frustration and keeping Ireland on track for over 59 overs on day five despite several precarious moments. From the start, Campher defended strongly while Jordan Neill powered several boundaries, including a lofted six off Murad. Litton Das dropped a chance when Neill was on 23, but Mehidy Hasan Miraz eventually broke Neill’s forward stroke to topple the stumps. Campher reached fifty with a straight six and respected the law of patience through disciplined play.
Ireland began the final day at 176 for 6, with a wicket in hand. Bangladesh’s spin bowlers exploited the gentler pitch conditions after the batters had softened it in the morning. Opening pair Andy Balbirnie and Paul Stirling fell early, leaving Harry Tector to anchor the innings with a neat 50 before Mushfiqur snatched a tough catch at the trap.
Stephen Doheny knighted three close chances on 2, 13, and 14, then Taijul adjudged him lbw at 15. Earlier, Bangladesh had gone in at 297 for 4, powered by fifties from Shadman Islam, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, and Mominul Haque – the latter topping the scorecard with 87 – as well as Mushfiqur’s unbeaten 53, rounding off a memorable display for the 38‑year‑old.
