PV Sindhu has been selected to serve on the Badminton World Federation’s Athletes Commission for the 2026‑2029 term, the federation announced on October 10. The two‑time Olympic medalist, who has already sat on the commission from 2017 to 2025, will now join four fellow athletes in shaping how the sport is run worldwide.

Sindhu is one of India’s most celebrated shuttlers. She also serves as a BWF Integrity Ambassador, a role she has held since 2020. For this new term, she will work alongside Olympic champion An Se‑young from Korea, 2024 silver‑medalist Jia Yifan of China, Egypt’s Doha Hany, and Dutch player Debora Jille. All five names were the only nominees, so they were confirmed without contest. While Sindhu returns for a third term, An Se‑young and Jia Yifan are new faces on the commission.

The Athletes Commission’s job is to give badminton players a voice in top‑level decisions. It advises the BWF Council on tournament rules, player welfare, integrity, and the sport’s overall competitive climate. In the coming weeks, the commission will elect a Chair and Deputy Chair, and the Chair will gain a direct vote on the BWF Council—further strengthening athlete input at the highest level.

BWF President Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul welcomed the new members, saying, “Athletes are the heart of our sport. Their voices must guide every decision we make.” She added that the commission will help make badminton one of the world’s leading sports.

Sindhu’s appointment highlights her commitment to creating an inclusive environment where every player—from young beginners to seasoned professionals—feels respected, supported and empowered to succeed. The renewed commission looks forward to shaping the future of badminton together.
