On October 6 in New Delhi, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami praised India’s para‑athletes after they produced the country’s best finish ever at the World Para Athletics Championships 2025.

India finished 10th overall, taking home 22 medals – six gold, nine silver and seven bronze – the highest medal tally India has ever earned at a World Championships.

The Sunday session delivered three silver medals for India:

  • Simran Sharma – women’s 100 m T12
  • Preethi Pal – women’s 100 m T35
  • Navdeep – men’s javelin throw T41

CM Dhami congratulated the team in a post on X, saying: “Heartiest congratulations to the Indian team for their outstanding performance at the World Para Athletics Championships, winning a total of 22 medals, including six golds. Your achievement has filled the entire nation of India with pride. You all have proven that determination and hard work bring success. Wishing you all endless good wishes for a bright future.” X post

India’s 2025 showing tops the 2024 results from Kobe, Japan, where the team took 17 medals (six gold, five silver, six bronze).

The 12th edition of the championships attracted 2,000 athletes from 104 nations who competed in 186 events on a new Mondo track at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. A record 35 world records and 104 championship records were set during the nine‑day meet. The tally of world records matched the 35 marks set at Paris 2023 and beat last year’s Kobe championships.

Forty‑four nations captured at least one gold medal, and 63 countries earned a medal. India sent a 73‑member contingent, including 54 men and 19 women, to compete in the global arena.
