The West Indies cricket team kicked off its practice sessions on Tuesday at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, gearing up for a crucial two-Test series against India. Under captain Roston Chase, the players focused on sharp fielding drills and slip catching, building momentum for the matches set to start on October 2.
This tour marks a big moment for West Indies, who haven’t won a Test in India since 1994. They’re aiming to change that story in the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle, where they sit sixth in the standings. India, ranked third, enters the series fresh from a hard-fought 2-2 draw against England. For the hosts, it’s new skipper Shubman Gill’s first home outing as leader.
West Indies shared the excitement on Instagram, posting: “Matchday – 2 at practice for our next WTC encounter.” Their last Test stint ended tough, with a 0-3 whitewash by Australia, but they’re determined to climb the WTC ladder—they’ve finished eighth in all three previous editions.
Bad news hit the squad, though. Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph is out of the India tour with a lower-back injury, as confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The experienced pacer, with 124 wickets in 40 Tests, joins injured teammate Shamar Joseph on the sidelines. Stepping in is uncapped player Jediah Blades, adding fresh energy to the attack.
The series holds high stakes for West Indies’ WTC campaign, and fans are watching closely as they chase a breakthrough win on Indian soil.
West Indies squad for the India Test series: Roston Chase (captain), Jomel Warrican (vice-captain), Kevlon Anderson, Alick Athanaze, John Campbell, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Justin Greaves, Shai Hope, Tevin Imlach, Johann Layne, Jediah Blades, Brandon King, Anderson Phillip, Khary Pierre, Jayden Seales.
