The World Boxing Cup Finals 2025 in Greater Noida kept India on a high note through the second day of competition. Two Indian fighters – Pawan Bartwal (55 kg) and Hitesh Gulia (70 kg) – pulled off surprise victories that gave the country a perfect medal sweep in both sessions.
Pawan Bartwal stunned the defending champion, Brazil’s Altynbek Nursultan, with a clean, defensive display. He held the second‑seeded boxer on the ropes for most of the bout, exploiting openings with precise timing. After the fight, Bartwal said, “I was nervous at first, but the support from our crowd gave me confidence. Winning this medal is a huge moment in my career.”
In a tense split decision, Hitesh Gulia beat Japanese two‑time Olympian Sewon Okazawa, 3‑2. Both fighters were very cautious early on, but a powerful hook from Hitesh in round 2 gave him the edge. Okazawa fought back hard in round 3, but the Indian’s early lead proved decisive.
Other Indian boxers kept up the momentum. Sumit (75 kg) won 5‑0 over South Korea’s Kim Hyeon‑tae, while Naveen (90 kg) used a smart, composed approach to defeat Kazakhstan’s Bekzat Tangatar. In the 50 kg class, Jadumani Singh beat Kazakhstan’s Nurzat Ongarov by unanimous decision, showing relentless attack from the start.
The women’s side also delivered strong results. Taiwan’s Olympic medallist Wu Shih‑Yi dominated Uzbekistan’s Sitora Turbibekova 5‑0 in the 57 kg division. In other matches, Uzbekistan’s Samandar Olimov, England’s Ellis Trowbridge, and Uzbekistan’s Javokhir Abdurakhimov moved forward in the 55 kg and 75 kg brackets, while teams from Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and Poland earned key wins across the afternoon.
With all ten Indian boxers advancing to the semifinals on Day 3, the country’s hopes remain high. World Champion Minakshi (48 kg) will face Korea’s Bak Cho‑rong, while Preeti (54 kg) takes on Olympic medalist and three‑time world champion Huang Hsiao‑Wen. Arundhati Choudhary (70 kg) will meet German standout Leonie Muller, and Saweety Boora (75 kg) goes up against Australia’s Emma‑Sue Greetree. Narender, Naveen and Ankush also chase finals spots, and Abhinash Jamwal will open his campaign against Ukraine’s Elvin Aliiev.
India’s string of wins at the World Boxing Cup Finals 2025 highlights the country’s growing strength on the international boxing stage and keeps fans excited for the fights ahead.
