India finished the World Para Athletics Championships in record form, taking home 22 medals – six golds, nine silvers and seven bronzes – on the final day of the first‑ever event held in the country. The haul outshines India’s 17‑medal run in Kobe 2024 and signals growing strength in para‑sports.

The day opened with Simran winning bronze in the women’s 200 m T12. She ran a personal best of 24.46 seconds. The gold went to Alejandra Lopez (24.20 s). When Lopez was later disqualified for an illegal push, Simran’s bronze was upgraded to silver. She said the Asian‑record time made the win feel special.

Preethi Pal, a double‑medalist from the Paris Paralympics, ran the women’s 100 m T35. She set the fastest time in the qualifiers, 14.50 s, but a false start forced a second race. On the restart she finished with a season best of 14.33 s, earning silver behind Guo Qianqian (14.24 s). Fatimah Suwaed of Iraq finished bronze at 14.39 s.

In the men’s 200 m T44 final, Sandeep grabbed bronze with a 23.60‑second personal best. Italy’s Marco Cicchetti won gold, setting a European record at 23.00 s, while Ukraine’s Pavlo Kaplun took silver at 23.12 s.

Navdeep Singh celebrated his silver in the men’s 45.46‑m shot put. He trailed Iranian Sadegh Beit Sayah who threw 48.86 m, just eight centimetres shy of the world record. China’s Sun Pengxiang finished bronze with 43.60 m.

The 73‑member Indian team – 54 men and 19 women – joined 2,000 competitors from 104 nations in the 12th edition of the Championships, which featured 186 events.

“After the Scottish team, it feels good to see India finish stronger,” Navdeep said. Simran added that the home crowd made the victory even sweeter. Preethi plans to turn her silver into a gold at the next Asian Games, while Navdeep is already eyeing the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.

India’s performance shows how far the country has come in para‑athletics, and the athletes’ determination is already inspiring a new generation of competitors.
