Hockey Asia Cup: Clinical India fight back from a goal down to defeat Malaysia 4-1

India’s Men’s Hockey Team Stages Comeback to Beat Malaysia 4-1 at Asia Cup 2025

In an exciting match at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium, the Indian men’s hockey team showed great resilience by coming back from a goal down to beat Malaysia 4-1 in their second game of the Men’s Asia Cup 2025. The win was special not only for the team’s performance but also for captain Harmanpreet Singh, who played his 250th match for India.

India opened the scoring with experienced player Manpreet Singh, who netted in the 17th minute. Sukhjeet Singh added another in the 19th minute, closely followed by Shilanand Lakra’s goal in the 24th minute. Vivek Sagar Prasad scored the fourth goal in the 38th minute, sealing India’s commanding victory. Malaysia’s Shafiq Hassan scored the only goal for Malaysia early in the second minute of the game.

The match started with Malaysia taking the lead early on, thanks to Shafiq Hassan’s goal. Malaysia kept up the pressure and dominated possession in the first half. But India fought back strong in the second quarter, winning crucial penalty corners. Harmanpreet Singh’s shot was saved initially, but Manpreet Singh seized the opportunity to level the score at 1-1. Soon after, Sukhjeet Singh put India ahead 2-1, and Shilanand Lakra made it 3-1 before halftime.

In the third quarter, Malaysia pushed hard for another goal and earned a penalty corner, but Indian goalkeeper Krishan Bahadur Pathak made a fantastic save. Just before the quarter ended, Vivek Sagar Prasad scored India’s fourth goal, putting the game out of Malaysia’s reach. Despite Malaysia’s efforts to stage a comeback, India’s solid defence kept them at bay in the final quarter.

This victory keeps India’s hopes alive in the Asia Cup 2025, and the team now prepares for their next match against China on Saturday. Meanwhile, other results saw Bangladesh beat Kazakhstan 5-1 and China stun Korea 3-0, keeping the race for the top spots on track.

Stay tuned as India aims to continue their winning streak in the Men’s Asia Cup 2025!
