Chennai, Nov 23 (LatestNewsX) – The AIADMK has scheduled its General Council and Executive Committee meetings for December 10 at Vanagaram in Chennai. General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) confirmed that both meetings will take place in the Sri Varu Venkatachalapathy Hall, underscoring a pivotal moment for the party as Tamil Nadu gears up for the 2026 Assembly elections.
According to the notice, Presidium Chairman Tamilmagan Hussain will chair the General Council session. Invitations will reach every member of both bodies, with the message that attendance is compulsory. The timing is crucial, coming right before the next year’s elections.
Sources say the gatherings will likely focus on the party’s election strategy, potential alliances, and overall positioning. As EPS steadily strengthens his grip on the organization, he is expected to chart the campaign blueprint and kick off preparations for grassroots and district-level structuring.
The meetings are also expected to carry a political edge, given recent internal strife. Veteran leader C. V. Shanmugam (Sengottaiyan), once a senior ally of EPS, openly opposed the leadership and demanded the readmission of expelled figures O. Panneerselvam (OPS), T.T.V. Dhinakaran, and V.K. Sasikala. He set a deadline for the party’s response, prompting a stern reaction from EPS. Following his defiance, Sengottaiyan was relieved of his duties, later appearing publicly with OPS, Dhinakaran, and Sasikala—hinting at a possible shift among sidelined factions. His rebellion ultimately led to his expulsion.
Thus, the December 10 meeting is seen as a critical platform for EPS to consolidate his authority and restore unity. With rival groups trying to regroup ahead of the election, the General Council is expected to lock down alliance choices and campaign tactics. The party’s organizational machinery is now rallying for what its leaders describe as one of the most significant pre‑poll gatherings in recent memory.
