Patna, Nov 5 – Ahead of Bihar’s Assembly polls, the state’s top police official said all security plans are in place to keep the elections calm and fair.
Vinay Kumar, the Director General of Police (DGP), addressed reporters on Wednesday. He confirmed that police and administration are fully ready to keep the law and order bubble tight as the first election phase kicks off on November 6.
“We’ve finished every detail to run the polls peacefully,” Kumar told . “I urge every young person in Bihar to use their voting right to strengthen democracy.”
He cautioned that anyone who tries to stir up violence or trouble during voting will face strict legal action. “Anyone breaking the law will be charged with FIRs—no one is above the law,” he added.
The DGP called on youth not to be swayed by anti‑social elements. “Don’t let those who want to disrupt peace trick you. Vote and let democracy grow,” he said. He mentioned that the police have set up public helpline numbers for voters who run into problems at polling booths.
When asked about the FIR against Union Minister Lalan Singh for allegedly breaching the Model Code of Conduct, Kumar said the Code is known to everyone. “If anyone flouts it, relief is filed. Our police force is working hard to enforce it.”
Kumar described the preventive measures the police have taken. “Anyone who tries to create a dangerous situation will be caught and detained under preventive detention laws, then released only after signing a bond.” He noted that about 200,000 people have already been arrested on such orders this year.
To secure the elections, 1,500 police units were already deployed for the two‑phase sweep. In the last week, an additional 150 teams were added, mainly for districts set to vote in the second phase. Dial‑112 remains operational for emergencies, and law‑enforcement social‑media teams monitor misinformation closely.
The DGP also warned that criminal actors targeting the polls will face fast‑track trials. Around 800 suspects have been arrested in the last month, and the Election Commission’s “priority legal action” directive means convictions could be reached within two months.
He reminded voters, “Come out to vote without fear. Bihar’s first democratic experiment was started here—protect it.” The DGP urged people to report any anti‑social activity immediately; strict penalties would follow for those attempting to spread violence.
The Assembly elections will run in two rounds: November 6 for 121 seats, November 11 for 122 seats, with counting on November 14. The State now operates under the Model Code of Conduct and a comprehensive security strategy to ensure a smooth electoral process.
