In a big update from Andhra Pradesh, YSR Congress Party MP PV Mithun Reddy just got bail after 72 days behind bars. The Anti-Corruption Bureau court approved it on Monday in the high-profile Rs 3,200-crore liquor scam case that’s been making waves across the state.
Reddy, who represents the Rajampet Lok Sabha seat, now faces some strict conditions. He has to post a Rs 2 lakh bond with two sureties, show up before the investigation officer every Friday and Monday, and get court permission before leaving the country. On top of that, he’s barred from talking publicly about the alleged scam or reaching out to any witnesses or other accused people involved.
Arrested on July 19 by police, Reddy landed in Rajahmundry Central Jail as Accused No. 4 in this messy case of alleged corruption and irregularities in the state’s liquor trade. Sources from his legal team say they’re sorting out the paperwork, so he could walk free from the jail as early as Tuesday.
This liquor scam has turned into one of Andhra Pradesh’s hottest controversies, pointing fingers at politicians and businessmen in a supposed nexus with liquor syndicates. The Enforcement Directorate and state ACB are digging deep, claiming massive power abuse and tweaks to liquor distribution that led to huge financial losses.
Reddy’s arrest sparked a major political firestorm back in July. YSRCP leaders cried foul, calling it a targeted vendetta by rivals. Meanwhile, opposition parties cheered the probe, pushing for top-level accountability. With his bail now in place and other suspects still under the spotlight, this could shake up state politics even more.
Party insiders hint that Mithun Reddy plans to speak to the media soon after getting out, likely to set the record straight on the charges against him. The investigations roll on, with ACB and ED gathering more evidence and questioning key players in the coming weeks.
Just a quick backstory: The Supreme Court had shot down his anticipatory bail earlier, leading to the arrest. But he did snag a five-day interim bail to vote in the Vice President elections on September 9. Stay tuned as this Andhra Pradesh liquor scam story unfolds.
