Assam Rifles Chief Boosts Security and Community Ties in Manipur’s Border Areas

In a key move to strengthen border security and build stronger community bonds, Assam Rifles Director General Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera visited forward areas and Manipur’s Churachandpur district. This outreach highlights the force’s focus on national security and social harmony in the North-East, as defence officials shared.

The trip kicked off with a close look at border security operations. Lt Gen Lakhera checked the current situation and how ready the troops are along sensitive border stretches in Manipur. He praised over 100 personnel and local community leaders for their sharp vigilance, quick action against threats, and top-notch professionalism in tough spots.

A big part of the visit centered on border fencing projects and the smooth rollout of pass systems at crossing points. These steps help keep things secure while making life easier for people living nearby, the officials noted.

Shifting gears to community outreach, Lt Gen Lakhera connected with groups like the Zomi Council and Kuki-Zo Council in Churachandpur. These talks built on trust and showed how Assam Rifles acts as a peacekeeper in the region, fostering harmony among diverse communities.

He also spent time with 42 ex-servicemen, 23 widows, a Veer Naari, and a family member of a veteran. Lt Gen Lakhera thanked them for their sacrifices and promised ongoing support for their welfare through Assam Rifles initiatives.

The visit added a colorful touch with displays of traditional attire from Churachandpur’s ethnic groups, celebrating the area’s rich cultural diversity and unity. Troops showcased innovative ideas that reflect their resourcefulness, and the chief honored local civilians for their work in social development.

Wrapping up, Lt Gen Lakhera highlighted the vital role of company operating bases in keeping peace and stability. He reaffirmed Assam Rifles’ role as the "Sentinels of the North-East," committed to protecting borders while strengthening community trust and progress in Manipur and beyond.
